Though she be but little, she is fierce

Gone will be the pleas for Macarons,

sushi, extended curfew times and

that bottle of water before she sleeps.

She’s running out of my arms

and into the world.

Hungry to become

and eager to leave her name.

My heart gushes sadness

My heart leaps with pride and joy

I don’t want to let go

I do want to let go

She has her wings

I have a heavy heart

My little girl yesterday

My friend today

But my daughter everyday

I have but one plea:

Look back now and then

and remember me.
